SR BOYS BASKETBALL

"It was a building year for the Trojan Senior Boys’ basketball team as they picked up three players from last season’s junior boys’ roster plus four more including Gyamani who arrived all the way from Alberta and added to the team’s average height (rookie Pollock helped with this as well). It was an especially exciting year for the Cabrilo brothers to be taking the court together. The team got off to a strong start winning their first two games against Elmira and Jacob Hespeler. Gibson, Pearcey and Ndiandui showed WCSSAA early on their ability to score. The boys picked up steam in their exhibition tournaments; the Cameron Heights and Jacob Ranton tournament where Nguyen, Sawan and Hackett impressed their coaches, however some major injuries from key players Brummelhuis, Edwards and Gibson mid-season meant players had to step into new roles on and off the court. Reinsoo was a late but vital addition to the team and made up for his late start quickly by working hard in practices. By the end of the season, the senior Trojans showed an incredible amount of grit and perseverance with a big win against the KCI Raiders to close out another season. Coaches, Bumstead and Pickett look forward to seeing what improvements Brummelhuis, Cabrilo, Gyamani, Nguyen, Pollock and Sawan can make as grade 12s next year and want to thank graduating athletes Cabrilo, Edwards, Gibson, Hackett, Ndiandui, Pearcy and Reinsoo. They would also like to congratulate Fil Cabrilo for being recognized as a WCSSAA second-team all-star this year.
